The seemingly insurmountable task of installing the infrastructure needed to make this organization work more efficiently has begun.
Even the basics need doing.
Reinstallation of live services onto uniformly-configured Windows 2000 systems (and in some cases, upgrades from NT 4) is going well. We're nearly finished.
Configuration of clustering for all applications has barely begun the concept phase; it's going to be an absolute bear to get all the software upgraded and clustered within any reasonable period of time (where reasonable, as defined by me, is anything other than 'right now, damnit'). Still, it will happen.
Installation of a set of systems as the development environment, mirroring our live configuration, is in progress, and should be completed by next week.
In addition, Bugzilla and GForge are on their way in, to help organize bug/feature/ticket tracking, and project management of all of our ongoing projects, respectively.
We've finally moved off of pcAnywhere to VNC, so I don't have to spend so much time inside VirtualPC on my laptop. Thank heavens.
Best yet, the move to CVS should happen next week. You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to seeing the back end of Visual Source Safe.
All in all, I'm thrilled. Exhausted, working what seem to be impossible hours, and spending my days and nights focusing on solving all the problems as quickly as possible, but nonetheless happy.
