A response to .net and .com... from .org?

September 24, 2003

In time in the not so distant past, Verisign was also responsible for the management of the .org namespace. In accordance with an ongoing process at ICANN (which will, in the future, see Verisign give up their control of .net as well), the new license-holders of the .org namespace, the Public Internet Registry (or PIR, as they are otherwise known) has put out a letter to ICANN from its chairman, David W. Maher, in Word format.

In addition to a local mirror of this document, I have made a pdf version of the letter available for those who'd prefer not to risk life and limb (and virus checker and firewall) just to read a letter.

I was notified by a reader of an article at CircleID by Doug Mehus which contained the reference to the original letter.
