I've written up a short article on the HDTV issues with the 360 in the articles section; if you've got an HDTV now, or were considering buying one, hopefully it'll help you see what kinds of problems HDTV users are running into. I don't think any of the major vendors were expecting these kinds of problems when they launched HDTV support - and Microsoft is basically paying the cost of being at the cutting edge of display support.
It's going to be interesting to see this all kick off with the PS3 - everyone's talking about HDMI cables, but there aren't a whole lot of people talking about the fact that they've all bought monitors and the like whose native resolution is higher than 720, but lower than 1080; for those people, they too will need manual resolution selection, and if Sony wants to avoid the problematic initial impressions of the 360 launch, they need to be sorting this stuff out well in advance.
Working in short chunks on this; a few hours at a time. So far, so good - the site's nicely divided into the necessary parts, the content's all separated properly, and it builds the Google sitemap properly. I'm pretty close to being able to go back to what I was doing; the only thing I have left to do is write up the web version of the CV, upload the word version, and then dig out and write up every major job and project I've ever worked on - the idea was to create a kind of project gallery of the projects I'd worked on previously. That's going to happen, but not right away - not much point doing that unless I fail to get both the google and last.fm jobs, as I'm willing to hold out for either party more or less indefinitely. I like the idea of working somewhere like that; though I do worry just a *wee* bit that moving to yet another startup isn't going to be a... relaxing jaunt, and might be incompatible with my previous feelings of being a bit burned out from the WhatsOnWhen grindstone.
