Congratulations are in order; my previous company, WhatsOnWhen, has been bought by Frommers. It's official, evidently, though I have yet to see the press release. This is really, really good news; the sale process really kicked off a few weeks into my last three months; it took three long, hard years to get that company into a saleable state, and I'm really happy it's worked out for them all. Some fresh blood in management and better staffing will be just what they need to take that business to the next level. I really hope it works out for them, and it's nice to know that for those of them that have been there since the company started, slaving away on the content, that their dedication and hard work over these few years might finally pay off for them.
And it's hit the press, to boot. Wiley had this to say:
"The acquisition of Whatsonwhen will significantly enhance Wiley's extensive travel-related content business, which includes the integrated online and print Frommer's, For Dummies, and Unofficial Guides brands," said Stephen A. Kippur, Wiley's Executive Vice President and President, Professional/Trade Publishing. Mr. Kippur continued, "Whatsonwhen's dynamic and scaleable technology platform, unique and valuable content assets, expertise in site-building, and outstanding client roster will extend our ability to capture a greater share of burgeoning spending in online travel marketing, and will bring Wiley powerful new capabilities, which will be of interest to consumers and travel-related companies."
Booyah.
I busted my ass to do that first-class integration of Frommers' content and revamp the feeds for realtime processing; it's nice to see it pay off in such a big way (Wiley is Frommers' parent company).
